I’ve just returned from the NSW South Coast, where many generous souls & wonderful singers collaborated with me in a series of free workshops for the community. My good friend, Jules Maxwell, initiated this adventure as way to offer some uplifting respite & contribute some small measure of healing, love & light to those communities still in pain, anger, loss & grief after the fires & floods that devastated the region. Good numbers of voices turned up at Milton, Cobargo, Tilba & Moruya for what turned out to be fun, emotional, joyous & unifying explorations of my traditional repertoire.
It was a moving, exhilarating four days. Thanks to Jules Maxwell & Jules Damian for being my caring team, thanks to my lovely friends Tina Broad & Dan Scollay who housed us & who do such great choir work in the region, thanks to Moira Scollay, Honor & Tim Northam, David Francis, Robyn Scott-Charlton, Steve Overmyer, Linda Sang, the lovely First Nation ladies’ choir in Tilba, and all the enthusiastic voices.
I didn’t know at the time, of course, that these would be the last workshops I’d be running for the foreseeable future…but I’ll see you all online sometime soon.
