she CRUSHED it

Tony Backhouse - Friday, September 30, 2016

I recently spent an inspiring morning in Marigny Recording Studios recording my friend Jonte Mayon. Before I got to New Orleans, I had no idea this was going to happen, but once there I suddenly realised that going into the studio with such a remarkable talent was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.  Having heard her solo at Ebenezer MBC over the years, I knew how phenomenal a lead singer she could be, but she was equally awe-inspiring as a backing vocalist: blessed with a remarkable ear, tone & range, and with a open and willing approach to songs about hairpieces etc., she nailed it. In the words of our equally quick and efficient engineer, Steve Panacek, ‘she crushed it’. One of the easiest and most good-natured recording sessions I’ve been in.
